The legend that eventually became SLADE was instigated when Dave Hill first sowed in musical seed in the mid 60's by teaming up with Don Powell's band The Vendors. Success wasn't instantaneous, but when the hits began to arrive it was as if the flood gates had opened, resulting in gold and silver discs and worldwide success and fame! Dave Hill has always been instantly recognizable through his flamboyant style of dress and his on-stage upfront performance, while Don Powell's dynamic and energetic drumming has proved to be as much a trademark of SLADE as has the success of such classic hits as "Merry Christmas Everybody". In 1973, in response to the demand of promoters throughout the world, SLADE co-founders Dave Hill and Don Powell decided to invite musicians with excellent pedigrees to join them. Guitarist and lead vocalist Steve Whalley had appeared with the likes of Chuck Berry, Barbara Dickson and Gerry Rafferty, and his bluesy guitar chops and powerful vocals elevate the band onto an even higher plateau - while vocalist and bass guitarist Trevor Holliday has been a pro musician since the age of seventeen. He formed the band French Connection who successfully toured Europe as support to Peter Frampton and ZZ Top, then he had 3 German chart hits with a band called London, followed by a No-6 UK hit called "Danger Games" with The Pinkees, all of which preceded his involvement with The Rubettes. The 1993 decision to reform and take the band on the road again has proved very successful.
